While working as an art director in New York City, Barbara began painting in plein air on the east end of Long Island. She now maintains a studio in East Hampton. Exploring the shifting moods and rhythms of the sea and landscape are central to her practice.

Her process is intuitive and experimental using fluid washes, subtle granulation and bleeding edges to allow the material qualities of paint to shape the image. Rather than documenting a place, Barbara’s work translates the sensory experience of landscape into an abstracted language of light, color and movement.

Her work has been widely exhibited in community venues and galleries on the east end and she has been selected for four Springs invitationals. She is a founding member of water+color+works, a local group of artists who meet regularly to paint and share ideas.
